BUYING GUIDE · 6 MIN READ
Choose field service software with a real job.
A polished demo is useful. A demo of your actual operating sequence is more revealing.
Write the must-have workflow first
Choose one ordinary job and one difficult exception. Include the first call, a changed appointment, a revised scope, the invoice and a customer question after completion. Decide which steps must work at launch and which can remain manual.
Ask what is available now
Separate current functionality from a roadmap, a sandbox and a feature that depends on a paid add-on. Ask to see important actions execute. A screen with a payment button is not proof that a merchant can collect money using it.
Test the office and field handoff
Have one person schedule and another find the assignment. Ask what happens with a poor connection, denied camera permission and two people editing the same job. Confirm which devices and operating-system versions are supported.
Evaluate access and portability
Check what a technician, dispatcher and accountant can view or change. Ask about data export, file access, account closure and onboarding. Your team should understand its responsibilities before importing customer records.
Compare the complete commercial proposal
Request written details for subscription charges, users, implementation, messaging, payments, training and support. Compare the same requirements across vendors. Do not use a headline price as the total cost if your workflow needs additional services.
